Petrol FAQ

How much does petrol cost today in Spain?

The cheapest Petrol 95 today costs €1.249/L. The national average is €1.509/L, with official MINETUR data updated every 30 minutes.

What is the difference between Petrol 95 and 98?

The number (95 or 98) is the RON octane rating — a measure of anti-knock resistance. Petrol 98 burns more stably in high-compression and turbo engines, but for most family cars Petrol 95 performs identically. Petrol 98 typically costs 16.2 cts/L more.

What is E5 and E10 petrol?

E5 contains up to 5% bioethanol; E10 up to 10%. Spain is gradually rolling out E10 (required at main pumps from 2026). Almost all cars from 2005 onwards are E10-compatible. Check the fuel-cap label or consult the manufacturer.

Can I mix Petrol 95 and 98?

Yes, with no issue. The result is an intermediate octane rating. If your car requires 95 minimum, filling with 98 does no harm but gives no real benefit. If it requires 98, don't use 95 continuously — you risk engine knocking.

Which stations have the cheapest petrol?

Independent low-cost brands (Ballenoil, Plenoil, Petroprix, Family Energy) usually lead the national ranking. Check our cheapest-stations page for today's top 20.
